Phil Callery, Fran McPhail and Gerry Cullen style of singing in harmony has evolved from the melding of two quite separate singing traditions – namely British harmony-singing and Northern Ireland’s unaccompanied solo singing tradition producing a unique group sound. The union of the distinct tenor and bass voices along with their own particular arrangements of good songs has made them one of the most distinctive singing groups of recent times.
As a group they are much in demand as studio session musicians adding vocal textures and melodic colour to the recordings of other artists including The Chieftains, Christy Hennessy, Elvis Costello, Jimmy McCarthy and Sinead O’Connor.
Yulefest Kilkenny is thrilled to welcome them to Kilkenny and to the Medieval Mile Museum in what promises to be an unforgettable evening. We hope they might even style some traditional songs for the season that’s in it!
