Mid-Winter is a time that resonates deeply with people across many traditions and cultures – the significance of the winter solstice period transcends faiths. It has been celebrated in music across the globe. In this concert the repertoire of Christmas and winter-themed material dates from the 16th–18th centuries from Ireland, France, Spain, England, Poland, and further afield. Some pieces, like the Wexford Carol and the Coventry Carol are well known and some are less familiar, e.g. the Spanish Yo me soy la moreñica and Rey, a quien reyes adoran

The ensemble Tonos (see is known for its interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque music and comprise soprano Róisín O’Grady and early guitarist/lutenist Dr Eamon Sweeney. Róisín is a former member of The National Chamber Choir, is a teacher and a regular guest soloist with bodies such as the National Symphony Orchestra and the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
